Sue Olsen, 65, of Warren, passed away peacefully at her home with
the generous support of the Central Vermont Hospice on Tuesday,
December 30, 2008, after a 13-year battle with ovarian cancer.
Sue was born on July 18, 1943, in Pittsburgh, PA, to Russell and Isabel
Pollock and earned an associate degree from Kent State University. She
moved to NYC where she lived until she met her husband, John, and moved
to Norwalk, CT, and then to Reading, MA. A large part of John and Sue's
life consisted of their love of skiing and Vermont. In 1971 with the
help of friends and family they built a home in Warren, where they
moved full time in 1979. Sue was the human resources manager at
Controlled Energy Corporation for 20 years until 2003.
Sue and John filled their lives with friends and family and opened their home in
Warren to all who wanted to share in their joy and fun of living life
to its fullest. Over the years they created an amazing network of
extended family.
Sue, the ultimate hostess of cocktail and dinner parties, was happiest
when surrounded by those she loved and she had an extraordinary ability
to make everyone feel at home in their home. Family and friends will
always remember her strong spirit, her amazing energy, her love of
people, her passion for life and the endless generosity of herself.
Her father, Russell Pollock, her mother, Isabel Ker Pollock, and her
brother, Rusty Pollock, predeceased Sue. She leaves behind her husband
of 41 years, John; her niece, Debbie Johannesen, her husband Gary and
their daughters Jessica and Kirsten of Warren; her nephew, Ron Wicke,
his wife Ann, and their children Brian and Erika of Trumbull, CT; her
nephew David Wicke, his wife Rebecca, and their sons Taylor and Cooper
of Fairfield, CT; and her many beloved friends.
Her family extended their gratitude for the support and love that the
extended family of friends provided throughout the years and over Sue's
final weeks. Sue's passion for life and friends will live on in the
memories and the many lessons she shared on how to deal with life's
bumps while enjoying it to its fullest.
Every moment with Sue was a gift and all were fortunate to have shared
their lives with her. She will be remembered by many when skiing,
dancing, enjoying good food or having a cocktail. Cheers to Sue and the
countless people who benefited from knowing her.
An open house celebration of Sue's life is being planned for Saturday, June 6, 2009.
