Mark C. "Red" Joslin, 79, of Ferris Street, Websterville, died Wednesday, May 7, 2008, at his home.
Born on January 8, 1929, in Waitsfield, he was the son of Harold and Floy (Bettis) Joslin. He attended school in Waitsfield. At a young age, he worked on the family farm.
From 1950 to 1952 during the Korean conflict, he served in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany.
On June 27, 1953, he married Rosalie A. LaVanway in Waitsfield. They first made their home in Waitsfield before moving to Websterville where they lived for over 45 years.
In earlier years, he worked at the Wells Lamson Quarry as a quarryman, for the Town of Barre Highway Department, and for Booth Brothers Dairy in South Barre as a milk hauler. He also helped with parking cars for the Hilltop Restaurant on Quarry Hill and the former Howard's Market in South Barre. Other work included Gus's Catering, insulating homes for Community Action, and volunteer driving for the Green Mountain Transit.
Red was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose of Williamstown and formerly of Barre for 30 years. He was one of the founders of the South Barre Fire Department and of the Thunder Chickens Snowmobile Club. He enjoyed snowmobiling and, in earlier years, hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his wife, Rosalie Joslin of Websterville; their children, Jeffrey Joslin of Texas, Gina Phillips and her husband Paul Sr. of Graniteville, James Joslin of Websterville, Joey Joslin and his wife Kim of Barre, Jay Joslin Sr. of Williamstown, and Jon Joslin of Graniteville; seven grandchildren, Carolyn, Paul Jr., Tyler, Tiffany, Jay Jr., Justin and Jacob; a great-grandson, Brandon; two sisters, Alberta Stafford of Waitsfield and Janet Perry and her husband William of Sudbury, MA; a brother, Eugene Joslin and his wife Edith of Middlesex; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Guy Joslin and Lewis Joslin, and two sisters, Dorothy Joslin Livingston and one who died in infancy.
His funeral service was held on Wednesday, May 14, 2008, at 1:30 p.m. in the Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy Street, Barre. Interment took place at the Vermont Veterans' Memorial Cemetery in Randolph Center. Family and friends called at the funeral home on Tuesday from 6 to 9 p.m.
