Barbara Cecile Hoge Obolensky of Southampton, New York, and
Waitsfield, Vermont, died peacefully on Thursday, October 11, 2007, at
her home in Vermont.
She was the wife of Prince Ivan Peter Obolensky, originally of St.
Petersburg, Russia, who predeceased her in 1975. They lived in New York
where they raised their children and spent their summers in
Southampton.
After his death, she moved to Water Mill to be closer to her children.
Born on September 11, 1914, in New Rochelle, NY, to the late Sidney
Cecile (Cunningham) Hoge of New Orleans and F. Huber Hoge of Boston,
she was the youngest of five children. Her brothers, Hamilton, Cecil,
Francis and John, all predeceased her.
She is survived by her twin daughters, Elizabeth Obolensky of Vermont
and Southampton and Barbara Obolensky McGann of Southampton; four
grandchildren, Whitney McGann and Alexander, David and Katarina
Kruckel; a sister-in-law Sarah Hoge of Southampton; and many nieces,
nephews, relatives and friends all of whom will miss her dearly. A
third daughter, Catherine, died in infancy.
She
graduated from the Ethel Walker School and spent her life caring for
her family and actively working for her many favorite charities,
especially those providing support to Russian refugees. She had a gift
for getting others involved in her efforts and worked tirelessly to
ensure success in all of her fundraising endeavors. In later years she
devoted herself to doing research for her brother Cecil's many books.
There will be visitation hours Friday evening, October 19, at
O'Connell's Funeral Home on Little Plains Road, Southampton, NY, from 7
until 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. on
Saturday, October 20, at Sacred Hearts Church followed by internment at
Southampton Cemetery.
