She was born September 25, 1925, in Chicago, IL. She was the daughter of Anna Wrenn Fulton and Darrow Bruce Fulton. She was sister to the late Everts Fulton of New York City and the late Leslie Fulton Flemer of Waitsfield.
Nancy Bruce attended the Latin School of Chicago, St. Timothy's School in Catonsville, MD, and Radcliffe College. She had a passion for literature and art and spent many years traveling in Europe. She fell in love with Vermont, and moved to Waitsfield in 1964 with her husband, Michael A. Bankier. They adopted a daughter, Adine, in 1965.
After Michael's accidental death in 1966, Nancy Bruce married Francis (Bob) E. Storer Jr. in 1968 and moved to New York City. During her years in New York, Nancy Bruce taught English literature at the Spence School.
Nancy Bruce and Bob often visited their Waitsfield home to spend time with the Flemers, to play tennis, and to introduce their daughter to the joys of horseback riding at Knoll Farm and skiing at Mad River Glen. Nancy Bruce lent her efforts to the Bundy Art Gallery and was part of the early growth of The Valley. The Storers eventually built a new house in Starksboro with the help of local architect Malcolm Appleton. They kept close ties with The Valley through family and friends.
Nancy Bruce is survived by her devoted husband, Francis E. Storer Jr. of Naples, FL; her loving daughter, Adine M. B. Storer, son-in-law, Magnús Snorrason, and grandson, Ian H. Magnússon, of Belmont, MA; her nieces and nephews, Wrenn Flemer Compere of Waitsfield, Stevenson Flemer and Benjamin Flemer of Burlington, Georgina Fulton of Arlington, MA, and Douglas Fulton of Sunderland, MA; as well as her many beloved great nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held in Waitsfield next summer, followed by interment at the South Fayston cemetery on Bragg Hill.
