Doris Rebecca Graves, 86, formerly of Duxbury, passed away peacefully at the Berlin Health and Rehabilitation Center on Saturday, March 3, 2007, following a period of declining health. Born in Pomfret on November 10, 1920, she was the daughter of the late John E. and Esther A. (Harvey) Emery. On November 21, 1970, she married Emerson Reuben Graves in Woodstock. Mr. Graves passed away on February 29, 1988.
Doris was a 1939 graduate of Woodstock High School. She worked as a housekeeper for several prominent families in Woodstock. She was a member of the Waterbury Congregational Church where she was active in the women's group Circle II. In her leisure time Doris enjoyed gardening, cultivating flowers, particularly African Violets, bird watching, knitting, sewing and crocheting. She also enjoyed reading and doing puzzles.
Doris is survived by several cousins, Claire Streeter of Windham, ME, Harold Harvey, James Harvey and Seward Harvey, all of Richmond, Philip Harvey of Albany, Mary Anne Allcroft of Perkinsville, Tom Brownell of Randolph and Jim Brownell of Jacksonville, FL.
Graveside committal services will be held this spring at a date and time to be announced in the Phillips Cemetery in Duxbury. There are no calling hours. The Perkins-Parker Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Waterbury is assisting the family.
