Doenges

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Patricia McMahon Doenges, who left us on April 1, 2025, just shy of her 72nd birthday. Born in Burlington, VT, on April 22, 1953, Patricia was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, known for her warm spirit and dedication to her community.

Patricia, or Patty as many knew her, grew up in Stowe, Vermont. As a child she loved playing outdoors, riding her pony, Doc, and skiing. She married her sweetheart, Doug, in 1973.

Patty and Doug were the proud owners of Soup n’ Greens, a Barre institution, for an impressive 37 years before closing its doors in 2020. Her hospitality and connection with her customers shone through the restaurant’s atmosphere she and Doug created.

Before venturing into the restaurant world, Patty earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Vermont and started her career as a registered nurse at Central Vermont Hospital. Her compassion for others was evident in all aspects of her life.

A devoted grandmother, Patty never missed an opportunity to spend time with, and spoil, her grandchildren. Patty’s dogs, chickens and bees were also recipients of her generosity and care.  Patty’s pie crust was hard to beat.

Patty is survived by her husband, Doug Doenges of Moretown, her loving son, Bill (Whitney) Doenges of Warren, VT; her siblings, Suzanne Pirnie, Sally McMahon, Debbie Crow, Edward McMahon Jr, Elizabeth McMahon and Betsy McMahon and her beloved grandchildren, Max and Lucy. She leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and hard work.

We invite you to join us in celebrating Patty’s life at her funeral service on May 3, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Guare & Sons Funeral Home. Following the service, there will be a burial at Mountain View Cemetery in Moretown, VT, and then a reception at Farmhouse Flowers, also in Moretown. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honor to the Mad River Valley Community Fund.

Come share your stories and memories of a remarkable woman who touched the lives of so many. Patty will be deeply missed, but her spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
