Raymond Perry Joslin, 83, of Berlin, Vermont, passed away on December 26, 2024, after a brief illness. Raymond was born on August 23, 1941, in Burlington, Vermont to Robert and Rita (Fisher) Joslin. Ray and his family grew up on a farm on the Common Road in Waitsfield. He attended Waitsfield Elementary School and graduated from Waitsfield High School in 1959.
Ray went on to join the army in 1960, and was stationed in Alaska with his lifelong friend Wayne Kathan. He was honorably discharged in 1963. Upon returning home, he married Ilene Daniels on August 7,1965, in Waitsfield, where they built their home and raised their two sons Seth and Jason. Ray and Ilene were together for 55 years, until Ilene passed away on September 16, 2020.
Ray had a lifelong career in construction and worked as a carpenter until he retired from Brothers Building in 2003. After retirement he continued doing odd jobs for people in Waitsfield and built and sold picnic tables from his home on East Warren Road. In his free time Raymond loved fishing, hunting in Maine with his friends, gardening, and feeding the birds, chipmunks, and squirrels. Ray and Ilene also enjoyed spending time at their camp on Curtis Pond and traveling together. Raymond made friends easily, and someone would recognize him just about everywhere he went. He will be missed for his witty sense of humor.
Raymond is survived by his sister Jane Sprague and brother Robert Joslin, as well as his sons Seth (Melissa) and Jason (Lynn). He is also survived by his grandchildren Austin, Nicholas, Cameron, Chloe, Morgan, and great-granddaughter Luna.
Arrangements are in the care of Kingston Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be held at the Waitsfield United Church Meeting House on January 11 at noon. All are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, consider making a donation in Raymond’s name to the Central Vermont Humane Society, located at 1559 VT Route 14, East Montpelier VT 05651.
