Marjorie ‘Midge’ Donnelly Murphy
January 24, 1928 - May 3, 2024
Midge Murphy passed away on May 3, 2024. Midge’s mind and memory never failed and it can be said her cause of death was living life to its fullest. Midge was predeceased by her husband, Fritz, in 1999.
A resident of New Canaan, Connecticut, and formerly of Orchard Park, New York, Midge and Fritz were regulars in the Mad River Valley visiting their Vermont family.
Prior to marriage, Midge spent two years teaching and returned to the classroom as one of the first Head Start teachers in the 1960s and taught “Great Books” for years. Education was Midge’s currency. The mugs from universities attended by her family was her stock portfolio.
Midge's adventurous spirit and unwavering zest for life never faltered; her curiosity never ebbed. Educated, involved, informed, Midge influenced multiple generations of family members and their friends with guidance, drive, and ambition.
Midge is survived by all of her 10 children: Marjorie (Terry Culliton) of Buffalo, New York, Laurie (Robert Silber) of Warren, Vermont, Marta of Waitsfield, Vermont, Sally Campbell (Kim Campbell) of Warren, Vermont, Trish (Bob Blair) of Concord, New Hampshire, Bob of Elma, New York, Dino of Manhattan, Amy (John Carroll ) of New Canaan, Connecticut, Neal (Alicia Murphy) of Washington, DC, and Brendan (Gabriella Steinmetz) of Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Her legacy lives on through 24 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations to benefit Waveny Life Care Network would be a perfect way to honor Midge and those who made her final chapter in life so full and so warm.
