Sherman obit webJean Sherman (1928-2020) passed away peacefully on November 1, 2020, with her loving family and friends around her and Abby, the black lab.

Jean moved to The Valley in 1963 with her husband, John (Buddy) Sherman, and their five children from Chicago where she was born and raised. They moved to Rolston Road in Waitsfield where Jean has lived all these years. There was never a day that she wouldn’t walk out the front door of her house and appreciate the surrounding beauty of the mountains and hay fields which gave her such pleasure. A walk down the road to her mailbox provided a little exercise.

Sugarbush Valley in the 1960s was in its heyday and with Jean’s personal charm, she made friends quickly and counted many in the ski business as her closest ones. Her cozy kitchen was a famous gathering place for after-ski drinks and good conversation. During the summer months she became a fine horse woman.

Jean was a true Vermonter and was proud of being president of the Waitsfield Historic Society, landmarking the Wait House and, along with her former brother-in-law Robert Rose, was responsible for planting many trees in Waitsfield and along secondary and dirt roads in need. She was an interior designer by trade and took pride of her work at the Sugarbush Health and Recreation Club, as well as private houses including her own second home, which she designed and built 10 years ago. Because of her Italian heritage, she spoke the language and was an accomplished cook in regional Italian cuisine. Jean was also a bookworm, and over the years amassed a very fine library. You could more recently find a small copy of the Constitution on her nightstand to fact check questionable amendment interpretations.

Jean is survived by Chrystie Sherman of New York City, Harry Sherman of Newport, Rhode Island, Jamie Sherman of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and John Sherman and his wife Natalie Sherman of Waterbury, Vermont.

She is also survived by her grandson Alistair Baxter, and great-granddaughter Alina, and two nephews, Tomas and Woody Everz, of Chicago and Los Angeles.
