Herbert Walden Lloyd died Wednesday September 5, 2018 after a three-year battle with mesothelioma. Herb was born in Milwaukee in 1928. He graduated from Michigan State University and received a master’s degree in metallurgical engineering from MIT. After 37 years working as an engineer, he retired and became a consultant in Italy. He loved all things scientific and took every opportunity to further his knowledge.
After moving to Salt Lake City, he spent the years skiing, traveling and enjoying the outdoors. Herb channeled his love of skiing into the National Ski Patrol, patrolling for over 50 years at Mad River Glen, Vermont, and Brighton, Utah. He is survived by his wife Helga; daughters Karen and Erika; son Herb Jr; grandchildren Justin, Abigail, Tucker, Megan and his sisters Janice Mahaney and Myrna Timmer.
Herb will always be remembered for his uncanny ability to fix anything and everything. Above all he will be remembered for his wry sense of humor which leaves us laughing even today.
There will be no services at his request.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a favorite charity or ski a run for Herb (and make sure it’s a good one).
