Christine Parkhurst ObitChristine was born June 7, 1949, in Montpelier, the daughter of Merrill Hugh and Katherine Marana (Bragg) Johnson (both deceased). She passed quietly away on January 23, 2017. Christine grew up in Granville and Waitsfield, VT. She then moved to Wolcott after meeting and marrying her husband of 45 years, Armand Parkhurst.

Christine attended and graduated from both Harwood Union High School and Rutland Business School.

Christine worked for the state of Vermont, as a bus driver and for the Woodbury School system. She was a member of the Wolcott Church of the Nazarene and taught Sunday school there. She was an active member of the church’s governing board.

She traveled with her older sister to western New York to discover the history of her family. She traveled as well to Colorado to see her son, Travis, on a rare occasion.

She was known to hold numerous Easter and Thanksgiving family dinners at her home with great food and endless effort to accommodate her family. She and her family enjoyed taking long walks, usually after one of those wonderful dinners. Christine loved nature of all kinds, especially birds. She had a love of flowers, plants and shrubs and they always looked beautiful; many of them she acquired from her mom, which she cherished.

Survivors include her husband, Armand, whom she married October 21, 1972; two sons, Jason Parkhurst and his wife Tracy of Springfield and their two children, Kia and Ayden, and Travis and his wife Johanna of Pueblo, Colorado; two sisters, Marana Allen of Waterbury and Myrna Wiseman of Dover, TN; two brothers, John Johnson and his wife Betty of Waitsfield and Merrill Johnson and partner Abbie Rabideau of Waitsfield; her Aunt Shirley Bragg of Burlington; her Uncle Bobby and Aunt Jinny Bragg of East Montpelier; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend a big thanks to the staff at Pine Nursing Home in Lyndonville that was her home for the last two and one-half years as well as care and comfort at Dartmouth Hospital in Lebanon, NH.

The funeral will be held May 13, 2017, at 10 a.m. at the Wolcott Church of the Nazarene. Burial will follow in Fairmont Cemetery, Wolcott. Des Groseilliers Funeral Home in Hardwick is assisting the family. Contributions in Christine’s memory may be made to the Wolcott Church of the Nazarene, 3950 Route 15, Wolcott, VT 05680.
