Richard Lemery ObitRichard “Dick” E. Lemery, 85, of North Main Street, Waterbury, passed away in the comfort of his home and family on Thursday morning, December 8, 2016. Born in Moretown on April 30, 1931, he was the son of the late Lucius E. and Myrle (Eddy) Lemery. On October 28, 1950, he married the former Mary C. Deal in Crew, VA. Mary predeceased Dick on November 13, 2004.

Dick attended Waterbury High School and on September 5, 1950, joined the Vermont Army National Guard. His National Guard unit was activated to support the U.S. troops during the Korean War; Dick served his country overseas and then completed his military obligation with the National Guard as a member of “A” Battery in Waterbury. He was honorably discharged at the rank of sergeant on August 1, 1955.

Dick worked throughout his life as an automobile mechanic in Waterbury. He began his career at Frank and Bud’s Service Station, later worked at Fred Lackard’s Esso Station and the Collins Ford dealership and then founded Lemery’s Citgo Station on South Main Street, which he operated for over 12 years and then retired.

Dick took great pride in his military service. His memberships included being a life member of the Harry N. Cutting American Legion Post 59 in Waterbury where he served many years as the service officer, a life member of VFW Post 10034 of Waterbury, a faithful and dedicated parishioner at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Waterbury and a member of the Knights of Columbus, Father Galligan Council 2085. In his leisure time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and spending time with his family.

Dick is survived by his children, Diane Mongeur and her husband Marcel of Waterbury and Richard W. Lemery and his companion Charlene Peirce of Duxbury; a sister, Marion Germana of Waterbury; as well as nieces, nephews and extended family. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Lucille Morse and Barbara Shonio; and three brothers, Edward Lemery Sr., Lucian Lemery and Roger Lemery.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Andrew Catholic Church, 109 South Main Street in Waterbury, on Tuesday, December 13, 2016, at 11 a.m. with a reception to follow in the church parish hall. Spring inurnment with military honors will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery, Duxbury.
