On June 6, 2016, Phillip C. Hatch of Waitsfield, Vermont, passed away peacefully in the company of friends. He was born March 7, 1949, in New Britain, Connecticut, and was the only child of Donald and Carol Hatch of Newington, Connecticut. He served in the Navy from 1967 to 1971 and was stationed on the USS Reeves during the Vietnam conflict. After serving in the military, he lived in Hawaii for a period and then Seattle until he returned to Connecticut. Phill moved to the Mad River Valley in 1987. He made many friends over the years and was known for his great sense of humor, kindness and love of the University of Washington Huskies and the Minnesota Twins. He bartended at several restaurants in Connecticut, Seattle and The Valley, as well. He ran Mad River Masonry until his health declined and subsequently became a resident of Evergreen Place in Waitsfield. Phill will be remembered by his great laugh and always having a joke to tell. A celebration of his life will be held this summer.
