George Kingsbury obit George R. Kingsbury, 88, died Wednesday, March 2, 2016, at Starr Farm Nursing Center in Burlington.

He was born September 12, 1927, in Plainfield, the son of George and Hattie (Martin) Kingsbury. George attended Waitsfield schools and graduated from Waitsfield High School in 1945. Following high school he served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. After his honorable discharge from the service, George attended Vermont Agricultural School (now Vermont Technical College) in Randolph Center. He was married to Joan Holman September 11, 1947, in Randolph. He worked as manager for Sunshine Feeds in Poultney until 1955 when he went to work for New England Telephone (now Verizon). He was their motor vehicle foreman and worked in Rutland, White River Jct. and Burlington until retiring in 1984. After his retirement George worked for Remo Pizzagalli. His memberships included the White River Jct. American Legion, Hartford Elks Lodge and Masonic Lodge #77 in Waitsfield. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening.

He is survived by his daughter, Jeanne Bluto and her partner Larry Rives of S. Burlington, and a granddaughter, Lindsay Bluto. He was predeceased by his wife of 68 years, Joan Kingsbury, in 2015.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 12, at Day Funeral Home in Randolph with Pastor Brent Devenney officiating. There are no calling hours. Burial will be in the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Randolph Center, at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Sinai #3, P.O.
