Betty J. Dolloff, 82, passed away in the comfort of her home and family on Sunday afternoon, August 16, 2015. Born in Moretown on June 11, 1933, she was the daughter of the late William R. and Ethie M. (Alexander) Humphrey. Betty was previously married to Wayne Dolloff.
Betty attended schools in Duxbury and Waterbury and while still in school, worked part time at the Vermont State Hospital. She continued her vocation at VSH becoming a psychiatric technician. Her career spanned over 30 years of service to the hospital when she retired in 1990. In addition, Betty worked part time at the Park Restaurant in Waterbury. Throughout her years of employment, Betty was additionally busy raising six daughters and was active in their lives along with the lives of her grandchildren and their families which she very much enjoyed.
Her memberships included the Harry N. Cutting American Legion Auxiliary Unit 59 in Waterbury. In her leisure time she enjoyed gardening, sewing and berry picking and was a wonderful and gifted cook.
Betty is loved and mourned by her children, Shelley Ploof and her husband Larry of Lakeland, Florida, Diane Farnham and her husband Paul of Knoxville, Tennessee, Penny Persico and her husband Frank of Bristol and Linda Stirewalt and her husband Mark of Waterbury Center; a son-in-law, Larry Pierce of Waitsfield; 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Fern Farr of Lakeland, Florida; her brothers, Bruce Humphrey and his wife Bonnie of Waterbury and Phillip Humphrey Sr. and his wife Marlene of Waterbury; as well as nieces, nephews and extended family. Betty was predeceased by two daughters, Lisa Foss and Debbie Pierce; four sisters, Juanita Dow, June Holden, Marylee Mansfield and Doris Dolloff; and a brother, William “Bud” Humphrey.
A service celebrating the life of Betty Dolloff will be held from Wesley United Methodist Church on Friday, August 21, 2015, at 11 a.m. with inurnment to follow in Waterbury Center Cemetery.
