April 3, 1937 – December 18, 2014
Monte Robert Shaw, 77, of Chappaqua, NY, passed away peacefully on December 18, 2014, lovingly surrounded by his two daughters, Emily and Laura, and wife of 34 years, Linda (Hauge) Shaw. Monte was born on April 3, 1937, in the Bronx to Harry and Elsie Shaw. He attended Bronx High School of Science and graduated from Cornell University in 1958 with a B.S. in horticulture and landscape design. In 1961, he earned his MBA from New York University Stern School of Business.
Passionate about flowers and plants, Monte lived his dream, owning and running his landscaping business, Country Lane Landscapes, Inc. He was a dedicated and tenacious business owner, going to great lengths to ensure that the job was done right, the job was done well and that his clients were happy. Monte's strong values of hard work, quality, persistence and loyalty were embodied in the way he ran his business. He proudly reminded us all that he was here to "make the world more beautiful," and that he has done.
Monte was an accomplished fisherman and skier. He found adventure carving his edges on many of the great slopes of the world, including the black diamonds of Sugarbush, Austria and heli-skiing in the Bugaboos. He found inner and spiritual peace in nature, fishing the pristine waters of the Arctic Circle, the rugged Andes of Patagonia, the wide open landscape of Montana, and, the most near and dear to his heart, the lush streams and rivers of Vermont.
Monte loved his family dearly and remarked the day before he passed, "I'm the luckiest guy in the world. I'm surrounded by all of my girls."
He is also survived by his brother, Harvey Shaw and wife Carol; sister-in-law, Marty Shaw; nieces, Erin, Molly and Hayley; and nephew, Wayne. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Barry Shaw.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Monte's name to:
