Mary Jane Reagan, 101, of Moretown, passed away in the comfort of her family at the Squier House in Waterbury on Friday, December 19, 2014. Born in Duxbury on May 12, 1913, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Jessie (Morse) Callahan. On September 14, 1932, she married Raymond G. Reagan in Waterbury. Ray predeceased Mary on May 11, 1976.
Mary was a 1931 graduate of Waterbury High School. Following her marriage she was happy and busy as a homemaker and raising her family. Later entering the workforce, Mary was employed in the office and store for Ward Lumber Company in Moretown before becoming postmaster in Moretown, retiring after 14 years of service.
A resident of Moretown for over 50 years, Mary served the town as an auditor and was active in school and community affairs for many years. A member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Moretown for over 50 years, she later attended St. Andrew Catholic Church after moving to Waterbury in 1985. Her other memberships included Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Altar Society, Mad River Homemakers (Home Dem), Duxbury and Moretown Historical Societies and National League of Postmasters.
Mary is fondly remembered for her skill as a seamstress and quilter, as a wonderful cook, her joy in flower gardening and for her love of a good book. The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation for the love, care and compassion shown to Mary and her family at the Squier House in Waterbury.
Mary is loved and mourned by her daughters, Patricia Towne of Waterbury, Linda Ferrera and her husband Lenny of Peabody, MA; her 9 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild; her daughter-in-law, Brooke (Reagan) Conger and her husband Bud of Essex Jct.; a special niece who always thought of Mary as a mom, Joanne Allbaugh of Barling, AR; as well as nieces, nephews and extended family. Mary was predeceased by a son, Bernard Reagan, as well as five brothers and five sisters.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Andrew Catholic Church in Waterbury on Saturday, December 27, 2014, at 10 a.m. with a reception to follow in the church parish hall. There will be no calling hours.
