To The Editor:
I opened Another Man's Treasure late last year on Main Street in Waitsfield as a way of letting The Valley residents find household items without going to Burlington, etc. The store has antiques, collectibles, household, gifts, sporting goods and so much more. Now that the weather is getting nice, the traffic is getting good. The problem I am finding is that with over 4,000 items (many small) I am experiencing a lot of theft.
Why people feel that they are entitled to these things for free is disturbing. The final straw came on Saturday afternoon when two women and a small child came into the shop, looked around and decided that the antique child's sled in the front lawn display was for them. They picked it up and just walked away down Main Street.
There was a group on the porch of the Wine Shoppe and they thought it was great that I sold the sled, not knowing it was stolen. Now, I feel I have to install surveillance cameras. A sad commentary on the thoughts of people.
