The people who live here gave some portion of their life's blood to buy
a home, raise a family and open and run a business in The Valley.
Whether they are a farmer, a construction company, a restaurant, a
B&B, pet services, or grocery, whatever, they are putting their
life's blood into it. As they do their share, there are many of us who
do not.
We may not spend as much here as we do elsewhere but
could. Maybe Larry is right -- a little decoration could tell people we
appreciate them visiting our town and spending money and time here. I
think it would be a great idea to organize a little community-sponsored
effort and give of our time into sprucing up our town for tourists.
That includes a smile. I love the farmers' market on Saturday and think
of it as a time to see the people I hold dear. That also includes all
of the hardworking vendors and their families!
It is fall; as
a resident I would like to see it decorated in celebration of why
people/peepers come to Vermont. We have a good base to work with, lots
of cute things to see, that doesn't mean we should neglect the rest.
And, yes, I would volunteer. When driving in from the north there are
beautiful farms to greet the eye. From the south we have the falls and
the beautiful views along Route 100, but more could be done.
Let's
take what Larry had to say in good spirit and work towards making
Waitsfield a place you want to visit, and maybe even lucky enough to
live, in like us!
