We were in Waitsfield last month for the wedding of our son Todd and new daughter-in-law Adri at the Round Barn. Vermont is a beautiful, friendly state and a fabulous time was had by all.
We rented a beautiful mountain home for the visit and on Wednesday, December 28, most of our group went sightseeing. When we left in the morning it was raining and we heard that it might snow a little on that day. It snowed all day and by late afternoon, about a foot of snow had piled up at the rental house. As a result, we were not able to make it back to the house as planned.
Due to the change in our itinerary, we stopped at Jay’s Restaurant early in the evening for dinner and we talked to several people in the area about our problem. We spent hours at the restaurant, and we were trying to determine our options for the evening when several people reached out to help us. We are writing to thank them and to express our sincere gratitude for their assistance and kindness.
After we finished eating, imagine our surprise when the server stopped to tell us that the bill was paid in full by someone. We have no idea who did this for us and appreciate the assistance from an unknown individual.
As if that was not enough, a short time later Walter Brink said he could help us out with transportation. Instead of spending the night crammed into our vehicles, he borrowed the SUV with studded tires from his friend Pam Neal and delivered all of us to the mountain rental house. Walter and Pam helped us, and we are overwhelmed by their kindness. We cannot thank them enough for their assistance and will never forget the kindness they showed.
At the same time, another family was arriving from Iowa and was having trouble making it to their rental property. Three cars stopped by to ask if they needed some assistance. Thank you to the neighbor Tim King and the Waitsfield town crew for helping the Schroeder family make it to the home safely.
Your state was hit hard by natural disasters and national news highlighted how citizens came together to help one another recover. We knew you would be kind and should have known that Vermonters would help us solve our problem that snowy night. The assistance provided to our family speaks volumes about your state.
We enjoyed our trip to New England a great deal and heard about the kindness and assistance provided to others attending the wedding. Thank you for the help from many Vermonters including the town of Waitsfield, Walter, Pam and Tim. Our experience has more than doubled our appreciation of your community and state. Thank you very much!
