The Mad River Path Association will hold its annual meeting at 5:30 p.m. on May 30 at the 1824 House Inn in Waitsfield. Preceding the meeting, guests are invited to join in a short stroll to explore the newly expanded West Greenway trail. Walkers should meet at 4:30 p.m. in the 1824 House parking lot.
The meeting is an opportunity to learn about the Path Association's achievements in 2012 and its goals for 2013, all while mingling with other Path enthusiasts.
This year, the Path Association welcomes Heather Furman, director of Stowe Land Trust, to speak about Stowe's recently completed Cady Hill conservation project. Through Stowe Land Trust's leadership, $1.6 million was raised in order for Stowe to purchase 260 acres.
The acquisition permanently protected public access to approximately 11 miles of trail just a stone's throw from Stowe village and permitted the creation of a permanent trailhead on Stowe's Mountain Road (Route 108). Furman will talk about this and other Stowe Land Trust projects where trails figured prominently.
A reception will follow the meeting and will feature light refreshments and an opportunity to meet and ask questions of board members and the Path Association's director Will Flender. The event is open to the public at no cost.
