The Central Vermont Regional Planning Commission (CVRPC) is seeking high water mark flood pictures from local readers.
Flooding is the most frequent, costly and damaging disaster experienced by the state of Vermont and the Central Vermont region. From the flood of 1927 to Tropical Storm Irene in 2011, flooding has consistently been a threat to property, public infrastructure and human life.
The recent National Climate Assessment released by the White House predicts that flooding will only become more common in the Northeast. For these reasons and many more, CVRPC will be including an extensive Flood Resilience component in Plan Central Vermont.
To kick off this effort, CVRPC is launching a high water mark photo scavenger hunt.
High water marks provide continued education about flood risks so citizens can be better prepared to protect themselves and their property. The high water mark can be an official sign or an informal marking on a building, bridge, pole, etc. To enter the contest, take a photo of a high water mark and submit it to CVRPC in one of three ways:
Post it on the Community Input Map under the Flood Resilience comment category at http://plancentralvermont.org/participate/community-input-map/ (please be sure to include the email address).

If posting the photo to Facebook or emailing it, include a brief description of the high water mark's location. Each person who submits a photo by June 30 will be entered into a random drawing to win one of two prizes: a $50 gift certificate to the Central Vermont restaurant of their choice or a season family pass to Wrightsville Beach. Two winners will be selected.
