As school budgets increased 4.4 percent across the Washington West Supervisory Union (WWSU) this year, per pupil spending increased by a slightly higher 4.9 percent.
In The Valley, Moretown has the highest per pupil spending for FY2015, at $16,919 for 100.67 equalized pupils. Fayston has the second highest per pupil spending at $15,289 for 97.09 equalized pupils.
Warren has the lowest per pupil spending for FY2015, at $13,105 for 148.71 equalized pupils. Waitsfield has the second lowest per pupil spending at $14,741 for 136.5 equalized pupils.
Harwood Union High School per pupil spending falls toward the higher end of The Valley's elementary schools at $15,421 for 743.07 equalized pupils.
Typically, schools with higher numbers of equalized pupils have lower per pupil spending. As Moretown's equalized pupils decreased by 2 percent from FY2014 to FY2015, its per pupil spending increased by 6 percent. On the other hand, as Waitsfield's equalized pupils increased by 4.1 percent from FY2014 to FY2015, its per pupil spending increased by only 1.9 percent.
Total average daily membership (enrollment) in all the schools in the Washington West Supervisory Union was 1,974.39 in 2010. In 2011, that fell to 1,878.32. It increased slightly to 1,888.43 in 2012 and fell to 1,836.12 in 2013.
