The Inn at Round Barn Farm will host the Souper Bowl on Sunday, January 26, from 5 to 8 p.m.
The Souper Bowl was originally started in 2008 by the Mad River Localvores. This community event features soups prepared from local Mad River Valley restaurants. Guests bring their own bowls and enjoy a variety of hot soups from area restaurants. It ran successfully for three years led by Robin McDermott and Nancy Baron to sell-out crowds. The Souper Bowl was resurrected last year due to popular demand.
"This is an exciting time in The Valley with all the new businesses and activity for 2014," said chef Charlie Menard of the Inn at Round Barn Farm. "This is a great event that celebrates both food and community. Food is the focus, yet it's not pretentious; it's more on the convivial side. This plays into the lively and enjoyable atmosphere of The Valley right now."
This year will feature the music of Shrimp, a one-man band. Glenn T McElwain, aka Shrimp, is a performing musician and music production professional living in the Northeast Kingdom region of Vermont. A multi-instrumentalist with decades of experience both on stage and in the studio, he is prepared to help aspiring artists realize their goals by creating quality products for promotion and career advancement.
A percentage of the profits will go to the Mad River Food Shelf. Participants are asked to bring a canned food donation.
Here is a sampling of the restaurants that are attending: Pitcher Inn, The Hyde Away, The Common Man, Big Picture, Localfolk Smokehouse, Round Barn Farm and American Flatbread. Advance ticket purchases are strongly recommended.
