Paul Hartshorn, chair of the Waitsfield Select Board and the town's cemetery commissioner, evicted a woman who was camping in the Irasville Cemetery this week.
"I threw her out last night. She was in a tent drinking with three guys," Hartshorn said.
"I asked her if she had any compassion for the hallowed ground where she was and she said it was the safest place in town. I told her it was not anymore," he said.
"The audacity of someone to camp in a cemetery – it's really disrespectful," he said, noting that one of her dogs had been hit by a car and incurred vet bills of over $300.
Hartshorn did not have the name of the woman and said that she had been camping on private property in Waitsfield before she came to the cemetery on April 30.
