New England Newspaper and Press Association awarded The Valley Reporter second place in the New England Better Newspapers Competition 2012 for the Community Involvement category, which looks at ways in which to “allow members of the community to be involved with and have input into the paper,” according to the contest criteria. The award was presented at the annual convention in Boston on February 8.
The Valley Reporter staff submitted the “My View” section from the April 5, 2012, issue, which featured six “My Views”: Carl Lobel wrote about Green Up Day, Susan Russell wrote about National Crime Victims’ Rights Week, Jennifer Stella wrote about S.199, the right to say no to vaccines, Steve Joslin wrote about the proposed flavor descriptions for maple syrup, Dr. Steve Zonies wrote about dental disease, and Gene Bifano wrote about Citizens United and corporate personhood. The Valley Reporter thanks the community for its ongoing contributions to the newspaper.
