Cheryl Joslin, the director of food service at Fayston Elementary School, has recently been nominated for the National Life Group’s LifeChanger of the Year Award for 2012-13.
“Cheryl is not just a cook at Fayston Elementary,” her nomination states, “she is also a nutritionist, gardener and teacher.” Joslin has introduced students to black tomatoes, purple carrots and kale chips, and this year, she took the Farm-to-School movement to a whole new level when she purchased an entire cow from Flint Brook Farm in Roxbury and took charge of the entire operation from processing plant to cafeteria plate.
According to its website, “LifeChanger of the Year is an annual program that recognizes and rewards K-12 school district educators and employees who make a positive difference in the lives of students by exemplifying excellence, positive influence and leadership.”
Nominations for the award are open until January 26. The winner will receive a $10,000 grand prize and nine runners-up will receive cash prizes and school donations.
