Born and raised in Kansas, Dr. Kissenberth attended the North Carolina School of the Arts where she earned an arts diploma in dance.  She moved to New York where she danced for a short time and then worked as physical director at a YMCA teaching an untold number of aerobics classes and was the dance trainer for the gymnastics team.

She then began doing fitness testing which sparked her interest in medicine.

“I wanted to help people as an integral part of their families, working with the entire family,” Dr. Kissenberth said.

She received her B.A. at CUNY Baruch College in New York City and attended the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine in Old Westbury, New York. She trained as part of the first family medicine residency in the country at Hunterdon Medical Center in Flemington, New Jersey.

Dr. Kissenberth is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine.  Her areas of special interest are adolescent medicine, nutrition, bariatric medicine and fitness.

Most recently Dr. Kissenberth was employed on the medical staff of The Dr. Is In, a family practice and urgent care clinic in Clinton, New Jersey.

Dr. Kissenberth and her husband George, a retired harbor pilot, are moving full time to his Warren home. They have three children.  Madison, age 22, graduated from Champlain College and is living in New York. Riley, age 17, will be spending his high school senior year in New Jersey and then plans to attend UVM.  Emily, age 20, is moving up to Vermont and transferring to UVM.

“I think they needed somebody (another doctor) in the area. As soon as people heard George was retiring and we wanted to be in Vermont, people kept telling me to explore joining Dr. Cook’s practice.  I am happy to be here and to start practicing again in May,” she said.

Dr. Kissenberth will begin working at Mad River Family Practice on May 10 and will be accepting new patients.  Call (802) 496-3838 for an appointment.
