"In gymnastics, you put six competitors up on an event and they take the
top four scores. So, while you are always looking for your top four
scorers, you are also looking to build the back two so that any score
you take will be fine," Touchette explained.
"This year our depth is not as strong because we have a lot of new
gymnasts, so we have a top two or three each event with scores that are
ready to go, but we are really building up this year with a lot of
freshmen and sophomores," she added.
This year's seniors include Breanna Shepard competing on floor and beam
and three captain seniors, Maryah Magee, Kara Lynch and Dana Litchfield.
Litchfield competes floor and vault and pulls strong numbers on both
events. Magee has really improved her vault this year and is one of the
top scorers on vault and is a top scorer on bars, the most difficult
event in gymnastics. Lynch is only one of two competitors on the team
who competes all around, meaning she competes all four events, and she
is the top floor competitor.
Also returning this year is sophomore Cecilia Baker who is the other
all-around gymnast and is in the top four on each event. Newcomer
freshman Haley Aylward is taking on three events and performing quite
well on all three.
"We are looking forward to an exciting season and hoping to stay on top
out of Division 2 schools as we have for at least the past eight years
and it would be nice to place in front of at least one Division 1 team
as well; at least that is our goal for this year," Touchette added.
