Peter Colgan - MRV Rotary Treasurer

Mad River Valley Rotary, MRVR, continues to establish itself as a vital financial supporter of local organizations and it will now be extending its budgeting of fund raising and philanthropy for three years. Looking to the future with a three-year budget rather than the previous practice of a one-year budget, allows the organization to improve response to changing community needs.

At a recent membership meeting, Peter Colgan, MRVR treasurer, presented the budget and included detailed information regarding the Pillars of Giving. Rotary has identified the following areas of focused giving: children and families, education, food insecurity, seniors, housing, arts, health recreation and community. Some giving, such as scholarships, fit into more than one area.

Rotary fundraising has recently included a variety of events such as the Amazing Duck Race, sponsorships, Restaurant Raffle, the Fourth of July Parade and von Trapp Garden tours. Moving forward the plan includes an adjustment so that the funds raised in one year will dictate the charitable giving for the following year.

“We are very proud of the budgeting work we have done and expect this shift to enable MRVR to respond to community needs more effectively,” said Mike Curtin, club president.

New community members are welcome to all club meetings as a guest. MRV Rotary meets three times a month. The club calendar and how to become involved with the organization can be found on the website, www.mrvrotary.org.
