"It's wonderful to have supporters like Troy Kingsbury who are dedicated
to helping elders in our community," said Beth Stern, director of
CVCOA. "We couldn't do our work without them."
The winning essays reads:
"The wheels of Troy Kingsbury's mind were rolling when he hit upon a plan to help support older central Vermonters.
"Kingsbury, of Waitsfield's Village Grocery, wanted to sell his wife's
race car after she gave up racing at Thunder Road. He had thought about
posting it on eBay and pocketing the proceeds. But he decided instead to
raffle off the car and donate the money raised from ticket sales to the
Central Vermont Council on Aging (CVCOA) Meals on Wheels Program.
"Troy's grandmother was a recipient of home-delivered meals, so he knows
first-hand the value of 'our seniors getting a good meal and having
someone checking in on them regularly.' CVCOA's Nutrition and Wellness
coordinator, Kathy Paquet, told Troy about the unexpected need for
10,000 additional meals for fiscal year 2009-10. Before long, he was on
WDEV Radio promoting his plan.
"The winning ticket, purchased by Freddie Rogers of Ludlow, was drawn in
July at Thunder Road. CVCOA is enormously grateful for Troy Kingsbury's
generous contribution of $900, which is helping to keep Meals on Wheels
rolling along in central Vermont."
"The MOWAA/Subaru "Share the Love" grant is tied to Subaru's Share the
Love Event. The Share the Love Event will run from November 20, 2010
through January 3, 2011. Subaru will donate $250 for every new Subaru
vehicle sold or leased to the customer's choice of one of five
charities, including MOWAA.
"Central Vermont Council on Aging (CVCOA) supports elders in their homes and communities in 54 towns in central Vermont."
