The Climb It for Climate series is back for another installment at Sugarbush Resort, inviting outdoor enthusiasts to gather once again in support of climate action and the outdoor recreation community. After the success of its inaugural event in December, this year’s event promises a new, even more engaging experience – the addition of climate advocates joining in for a community skin and après gathering.
The event takes place on March 29 from 4:30 to 8 p.m. at Lincoln Peak.
The event, organized by the Mad River Valley Backcountry Coalition (MRVBC) and Friends of the Mad River, in collaboration with Protect Our Winters (POW) and Sugarbush Resort, kicks off with a community skin to the top of the Gate House Quad. For those looking for an extra challenge, there’s the option to continue up the North Lynx. The skin will be led by members of the MRVBC, who will provide guidance for those unfamiliar with the route.
The group will meet at the Schoolhouse at 4:30 p.m., with the ascent beginning promptly at 5 p.m. The skinning event offers an opportunity to engage with climate advocates, including POW representatives, and discuss the intersection of outdoor recreation and climate action while enjoying the winter landscape. The group aims to return to the base lodge by 6:15 p.m., where participants can enjoy an après gathering.
IMPORTANT DETAILS
A completed waiver from the Catamount Trail Association (CTA) is required to join the event, as is a free Sugarbush uphill travel pass.
- The event is weather dependent, with updates sent to registered participants by noon if the tour needs to be canceled.
- Participants should come prepared with their own gear and be knowledgeable about their ability level, as this is not a guided instructional opportunity.
- Space is limited, and registration is required in advance to secure a spot. Register on the Friends of the Mad River website. www.friendsofthemadriver.org
Following the skin, the après portion of the event will begin at 6:30 p.m., with a bar opening to serve drinks and food. Those who don’t want to tour are welcome to join the après and discussion. At 6:45 p.m., POW athlete Noah Dines, along with other guests, will lead an informal discussion about climate change, environmentalism, and the future of the outdoor community. This will be an interactive conversation with skiers and snowboarders sharing their perspectives on how the outdoor world can take action on climate change.
