The Big Picture Theater and Cafe, which closed its doors on November 9, 2024, to re-evaluate its future, will host a day of gathering and celebration on December 21, 2024.
On Saturday, December 21, 2024, the community space will offer a variety of events - all free to the public.
“It is an invite for the Mad River Valley to come together around film, food, contemplations of the future, storytelling and song,” said theater owner Claudia Becker.
The day at 3 p.m. will start with a matinee screening of “It’s a Wonderful Life” - a classic holiday movie about how each person's life enriches their community and how a town comes together.
After that, the longstanding tradition of sharing in the joy of caroling gets underway at 5 p.m. with Carey Bennett at the piano and everyone who wants to harmonize with their neighbors. Following the caroling at 6 p.m. will be a potluck dinner with the theme of “What does community mean to you?”
Becker will share some thoughts about the future of this important community hub and invite people to become part of the solution.
The celebrations will end with a Moth inspired storytelling at 7 p.m. themed “Stories of Solstice and Transformation,” hosted by Phantom Theater.
All events are free and will take place at the Big Picture Theater and Cafe.
The bar will be open to purchase drinks. Those who would like to bring some nibbles, or help in any other way, are asked to contact Becker at
