A new event on Thursday, August 19, is The Art of Dressing. The Warren
Store and Pitcher Inn are pulling out the runway for a fashion show to
benefit the Warren School PTO. Join Friends and neighbors for a summer
evening of food and fashion.
The third annual Ten Fest runs from Thursday, August 19, through
Saturday, August 21, with evening performances and on Sunday, August 22,
with a matinee. The Valley Players and Vermont Playwrights Circle
invite all to a performance of 10 short plays by 10 local authors
including Sarah Brock, Maura Campbell, Dvora Zipkin, Em Frappier, Margot
Lasher, Lars Nielsen, Bram Tobwin, Liam Kuhn and Judy Alexander.
Millions of city-dwelling children enjoy their summer camp experiences.
Adam Gropman was not one of those children! At the Phantom Theater on
Thursday, August19, take in a performance about summer camp by Adam
Gropman, a standup artist from LA.
Friday's events run the gamut from amateur singing to circus to painting in the moonlight to Shakespeare to zumba.
At the Big Picture, there are two performances on Friday night: at
Circus Minimus Big Top, campers show off their stuff and later on
Karaoke with Cowboy Dan spins Summer of Love music. Saturday kicks off
the fifth annual Mad 4 Music, a benefit to help restore coastal
Louisiana. This two-day festival, outside by the pond (weather
permitting), consists of 14 diverse artists/bands, mainly from the
central Vermont area, in genres that range from African drumming to
folk/bluegrass to hip hop, soul, jazz and rock.
Shakespeare is performed at the Pitcher Inn on both Friday and Saturday nights, and a prix fixe dinner is offered.
Friday night is the beginning of the Moonlight in Vermont painting
workshop with Barbara Pafume at The Waitsfield Inn, where participants
learn to paint the night throughout the weekend.
Saturday and Sunday are filled with offerings. Warren Village is the
spot to stop in for Art on the Porch at The Creators Shop, crafts with
Bradley House, the pie-eating contest at The Warren Store and outdoor
yoga and brunch at Hostel Tevere. Or take the day for the Innovative
Homes of the Mad River Valley Tour with Yestermorrow.
If learning is the lesson of the day (or weekend), there are workshops
in photography with Roarke Sharlow or Amalia Veralli, watercolor
workshops with Gary C. Eckhart, pottery lessons with Luke Iannuzzi, aka
the Naked Potter, cooking classes at The Kitchen at The Store, painting
in the moonlight at The Waitsfield Inn, kayaking and standup paddleboard
lessons at Blueberry Lake and demos on the porch at Artisans' Gallery.
Celebrate the artwork of Lew Zacks and meet the artist on both Saturday
and Sunday afternoons and enjoy some refreshment at a wine and cheese
reception. But leave some room for tasting more wine at the Celebrate
Waitsfield with Wine tastings at the Waitsfield Wine Shoppe and jazz and
pastels at American Flatbread.
On Sunday afternoon, enjoy an a cappella concert at the Waitsfield
Church, music and history at the Warren Library with Linda Radke and in
the evening find some Jugglers on the Roof at Phantom Theater, a combo
of circus, slapstick, audience participation and some dirty laundry.
Culinary choices this week include Mediterranean Nights at Terra Rossa
Restaurant on Sunday, Summer Supper at The Barn Door on Monday, India
Experience at the Millbrook Inn and Restaurant on Tuesday, World
Culinary Odyssey at the Weathertop Mountain Inn on Wednesday and Eat
Real at Sweet Pea.
On Monday, watch David and Melanie Leppla work at Mad River Glass (as
well as through the week), and in the evening, Laura Arnesen and Gary
Eckhart hold a workshop on the business side of art.
Tuesday, August 24, is the annual August celebration of the full moon:
Blueberry Moon at Blueberry Lake. Kayak and paddleboard demos, potluck
barbecue and drumming are the order of the night. If theater is more the
choice for that evening, check out Phantom Theater's dance
interpretation of the issues of consumption and waste.
On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, Charles Pruitt holds a workshop in
plein air painting at the West Hill House B&B, with an artists'
reception at the Sugarbush Golf Club on Thursday evening.
Wednesday is full of classes, art and more with Candy Barr's plein air
class, yoga at SHARC, gardening, acupuncture and glassblowing demos. At
5:30 p.m., Phineas Gage plays at the MRV Chamber mixer in the Village
Square, which ends in time for the Yestermorrow lecture or Sugarbush's
outdoor Movies on the Mountain at Lincoln Peak Village.
On Thursday, August 26, enjoy Music at Moose Meadow with baritone Thomas
Beard or check out the AGA oven cooking experience at AGA at the
Sugartree with Chef Gerry Nooney.
Friday, August 27, is the start of the Vermont International Children's Film Festival at Big Picture Theater.
The Vermont Festival of the Arts runs through Labor Day weekend. For
