"Good schools become better schools when traditions such as this are
started," Mr. Dean said in during his introduction. "It was a great
evening and it was special that these former athletes came from as far
away as Colorado to accept their award," commented Sue Duprat, Harwood's
athletic director.
HUGE STEP FORWARD
Track and
field coach Taggert Haslam said, "It's a huge, huge step forward for
Harwood and the community to bring these athletes back and have them
reconnect with the school and the community that they have left."
"For
me it was really neat to have our current student athletes see where
the athletic department has been and what these former athletes have
done since graduating from Harwood," said girls' varsity soccer coach
and gym teacher Jon Hammond.
SURPRISE INDUCTEE
After
the seven athletes had been introduced, Principal Duane Pierson
announced a surprise induction to the Hall of Fame to Tom Dean for his
sense of community and spirit he had developed at Harwood during his 38
years there.
"It was a complete shock to me to be an inductee
along with these great former student athletes." Mad River Television
Channel 44 will be showing the complete induction starting this
Saturday.
