Roger King, the golf -pro at the Sugarbush Golf Course hit the links last week to play 100 holes of golf in a single day as a fundraiser for two cancer charities. On August 30, a day that featured rain, deluges, clouds and downpours, King hit his first ball at 6:12 a.m. and his 100th at 5 p.m.

During his all-day marathon, King raised over $20,000 for Vineyard Havens Inc. and the Cancer Patient Support Foundation (CPSF) and he hit 15 birdies as part of his 100-hole challenge!

“Sugarbush is a special community that I have always found to be supportive of those they know and love. I also feel the same can be said about a much larger community, the community that has been affected by cancer,” King said.

This past fall and winter, these two communities collided for him when his wife Erin was diagnosed with breast cancer in the fall of 2022.

“Through diagnosis, surgery, chemotherapy, and months of recovery, we are on the other side and getting our bearings. Throughout this challenging process, we have had so much support from the Sugarbush community, and my family and I are so grateful,” he explained.

“I couldn’t have known how important this support would be from the beginning to the end. There were many friends, strangers, and organizations who stepped in and offered help in the most amazing ways. In turn, I have always believed in giving back,” he said in a blog post announcing the 100 Hole Challenge.

He asked for folks to sponsor each hole he played or simply make a donation and to make contributions directly to the two charities.

Here are details about the two charities and donations are still welcome there.

Vineyard Havens Inc. offers a different kind of medicine by providing all-expenses-paid respite vacations for patients with cancer and their families on Martha’s Vineyard. The package includes housing, round-trip car ferry tickets, professional family beach photos and vacation fun money. One hundred percent of all the money raised goes directly to the families served.
