"This is a 10-day celebration of the best Mad River Valley sports, recreation and outdoor activities in a singularly spectacular summer setting. It is an invitation to residents and visitors to 'go outside and play' by hiking, biking, kayaking, gardening, birding, golfing. It is summer Camp for adults," Kehoe said.
The team working on this event includes GO! board members Brenda Johnston (president), Bev Kehoe, Fred and Joan Gilbert, Vickie Walluck, Jenn Macauley, Luke Iannuzzi, Pierce Ferris and Sheila Hoffman.
The Vermont Festival of the Great Outdoors is a platform for the many sports events that already exist as well as new events of any size or shape. From a simple biking trip to a world-class racing spectacle, these events cross the boundaries of age, gender and occupation. Events are aimed at midweek visitors and weekend warriors as well as residents.
With multi-day events on the drawing board, overnight stays across the demographic landscape are anticipated and will be promoted. The sporting events will also be underscored with restaurant and shopping incentives in which any business in the Mad River Valley can participate.
Businesses and individuals are invited to put together a team to create or participate in events. Already given the green light are: tennis and kids programs at The Bridges; Mad River Glen's trio of a Gap-to-Gap hike, historic hike and naturalist programs; a Clearwater kayak/canoe trip; Mad Birders Walks; Sugarbush's summer offerings of golf, tennis, gardening, disc golf, biking, hiking and more. Organizations such as the Mad River Path, Friends of the Mad River, and the Rotary are in the concoction stage and individuals are gearing up for fun ways to play outside.
