Sugarbush began making snow on November 4 in accordance with its schedule to open on November 21. However, a series of high-pressure systems that have brought unseasonably warm temperatures began rolling through the state shortly thereafter, forcing most Vermont resorts to cease snowmaking operations.

"The month started off nice and cold and we were able to make a lot of snow, but then Indian summer decided to pay the state a visit," said Sugarbush's communications director JJ Toland.

"But Vermont's seen this type of late-fall warmth before. Sugarbush has a veteran snowmaking team that's anxious to get back to work and we'll be re-firing the (snow) guns as soon as cold temps return," he said.

He added that despite the unseasonably warm temps, a lot of the snow the resort made still remains on the upper portions of Lincoln Peak.

Sugarbush now plans to open Lincoln Peak over the Thanksgiving weekend, possibly as early as Thursday, November 26. Mt. Ellen is scheduled to open Friday, December 18, weather permitting. Visit sugarbush.com for the most up-to-date information on Opening Day.
