The statewide test is given to students in grades 3 through 8 and also in grade 11. Students are tested in reading, math and writing and are scored at Level 4 (proficient with distinction), Level 3 (proficient), Level 2 (partially proficient) and Level 1 (substantially below proficient).
Within the state, 71 percent of students were found to be proficient in reading with 29 percent below proficient. In math, 66 percent of Vermont students tested as proficient and 35 percent tested below proficient. In writing, 54 percent of students statewide tested proficient and 46 percent tested below proficient.
WAITSFIELD, WARREN
At the Waitsfield Elementary School, 77 percent of students were found to be proficient (or proficient with distinction) in reading while 24 percent were below or substantially below proficient. In math, 80 percent of students were found to be proficient while 20 percent were not. In reading, 60 percent of students were found to be proficient and 40 percent of students were below proficient.
In Warren, 87 percent of students tested as proficient or above in reading while 23 percent tested as partially or substantially below proficient. In math, 86 percent of Warren students tested as proficient and 17 percent tested as below proficient. Vermont's Department of Education website did not list the writing results for Warren, but school Principal Andreas Lehner provided that stat: 90 percent of Warren students tested proficient in writing and 10 percent testing below proficient.
FAYSTON, MORETOWN
At the Fayston Elementary School, 83 percent of students tested proficient or above in reading while 17 percent tested partially or substantially below. In math, 84 percent of students were proficient while 17 percent tested below proficient. In writing, 76 percent of students tested proficient while 26 percent tested below proficient.
In Moretown, 91 percent of students tested proficient or above in reading, with 9 percent testing partially or substantially below proficient. In math, 85 percent of students tested as proficient with 15 percent of students testing below proficient. In writing, 80 percent of students tested as proficient with 21 percent testing below proficient.
THATCHER BROOK, CBMS
At the Thatcher Brook Primary School, 66 percent of students tested proficient or above in reading, with 34 percent testing partially or substantially below proficient. In math, 70 percent of students tested proficient and 40 percent tested below proficient. In writing, 55 percent of students tested proficient and 45 percent below proficient.
At the Crossett Brook Middle School, 82 percent of students tested proficient or above in reading with 18 percent testing partially or substantially below proficient. In math, 73 percent of students were tested as proficient and 27 percent were tested as below proficient. In reading, 65 percent of students were found to be proficient and 35 percent were found to be below proficient.
HARWOOD UNION
At Harwood Union, where 11th-graders were tested, 71 percent of students tested proficient or above in reading, with 29 percent found to be partially or substantially below proficient. In math, 33 percent of students tested were proficient in math and 67 percent were below proficient. In writing, 51 percent of students were proficient and 49 percent were below proficient.
Among Vermont 11th-graders tested, 72 percent were proficient or above, in reading and 28 percent were partially or substantially below proficient. In math, 35 percent of students tested were proficient and 65 percent were below proficient. In writing, 42 percent of students were proficient and 57 percent were below proficient.
