The May 14 to 18 festival includes formal and informal biking and walking events, as well as movies, guided rides and guided walks. In anticipation of next week, organizers have put together a survey to register participation and learn a little about the participants.

The survey can be found at http://tinyurl.com/5usgbm and results can be found at http://tinyurl.com/62v8u3.

The survey, organizer David Cain said, is quick and easy.

"From it we'll get a sense of who is taking part, what our typical riding habits are, and some of the motivations and limitations people deal with when thinking about riding their bicycle in the Mad River Valley. We'll also be able to calculate roughly how many miles people rode and how much gas was saved in the process," he said.

The Valley Walk and Roll Fest has garnered local sponsors and champions, including the board of the Mad River Valley Health Center, where the Health Education Committee (HEC) is working in collaboration with Valley Moves -- a working group of Valley Futures (www.valleyfutures.net) -- as well as the Mad River Path and Safe Routes to School to improve access to Valley resources for fun, healthy activity.

"Don't know where to walk? Stop by the Mad River Valley Chamber of Commerce or check the website (www.madrivervalley.com) for ideas. Don't have a bike? Try one of the teal Mad Bikes located throughout The Valley. Don't know how to ride a bike comfortably in traffic? Sign up for the HEC sponsored Bike Ed courses to be held this summer (watch <MI>The Valley Reporter<D> for more details)," said health center board president Sue Frechette.

Bike-to-Work/School/Market is a part of the larger "Walk and Roll Festival" series of events happening the same week. See www.valleyfutures.net for more info in the Transportation section.
