Hutch Crane Service operators removed the sentinel tree at the corner of Moretown Mountain Road and Route 100B in Moretown Village on June 1. According to Moretown Select Board chair Tom Martin, the tree was removed because rot was discovered and it was deemed unsafe. The 85-foot tree appears as a mature tree in pictures dating from 1900, suggesting that the tree was 125 to 150 years old.
