The 19th annual Country Christmas will be lighting up The Valley on Friday evening, December 8, and continuing through Saturday, December 9. From Warren to Moretown, the event kicks off the holiday season with events for the whole family, tempting food and opportunities to find the perfect gift.
In this issue of The Valley Reporter is a schedule of events; people can also pick one up at Valley merchants. Start the weekend with everything from hot cider to chocolate to a book signing. On Saturday, join Frosty the Snowman for breakfast, enjoy a host of activities for kids of all ages, and welcome Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus at Mad River Green Shops in the morning and at Bridge Street in the afternoon.
Many merchants have decorated their windows with scenes depicting holiday songs. Guess which songs are pictured in all the windows, complete a form available at each participating merchant, return it Three Mountain Cafe by December 20. Those who do so will be eligible to win a basket of goodies.
Kids, need a special gift for Grandma or Mom – or something really fun to do? The schedule includes activities from crafts to cookie-decorating, roasting s’mores and plenty of games. And for the adults: Enjoy the many discounts offered by participating merchants, the giveaways, raffles, wine and food tastings, holiday singalongs and other special holiday events. People can also try decorating glasses at a Sip ’n’ Paint on Friday night – this one needs reservations; contact Julie Burns at 496-5470.
On Saturday evening, the Mad River Chorale will present a holiday concert at the Village Meeting House. For tickets, call 496-2048 or visit madriverchorale.net. And at the Mad River Taste Place from 5 to 6:30 p.m. the Mad River Path Association will hold a holiday celebration and present its plan for the path in the Irasville business district. Attendees will receive a free raffle ticket for a basket of Vermont products.
Need babysitting for the evening or late-day shopping? For a small donation to the Harwood Union basketball program, kids will be entertained at Waitsfield Elementary School from 4 to 9 p.m.
Several merchants will offer opportunities for contributing to local charities and organizations during this holiday weekend celebration.
