Those who are unable to pick up their race info on Friday can do so Saturday morning between 7:30 and 10 a.m. at the Mount Ellen Base Area. The Mad Bus will provide shuttle service to the race start at the Warren School. Volunteers are needed for the entire event and anyone looking to lend a hand can call Laura Worthen at 583-6849.
The 29th Annual Sugarbush Triathlon will unleash the first wave of competitors beginning at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 7. In the spirit of spring, there is a change to this year's course. The nation's only four-event triathlon will still have its 5-mile run, 6-mile paddle, 10-mile bike, and 3-mile ski. But this year the race finish moves back to Mount Ellen. The bicycle leg of the course will finish with an ascent up the Mount Ellen Access Road and the cross country ski course will be in the Mount Ellen Base Area. The competition is open to teams and individuals.
By the time the last skiers slide and stumble their way across the finish line, the party will be in full swing. Beverages, chili, bread, and salad will provide the après-Triathlon nourishment for spectators and athletes alike. The awards ceremony is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
Sunday the Valley Kids' Triathlon will give budding athletes the chance to maneuver a kayak on a pond and then run and cycle their way through a creative obstacle course. The kids' event gets underway at noon on April 8 at the Sugarbush snowmaking pond off of Route 100 behind the new Mac's.
