Akes’ Den in Waitsfield is under contract with Zaxal Properties, owners of The Blue Stone of Waterbury and the future new owners have already begun work on the site.
They anticipate a mid-December reopening and plan to create in Waitsfield a replica of their very popular Waterbury restaurant, including the beer and food menus, which feature pizza and tavern fare and craft beers.
Akes’ Den closed this spring and has been empty and for sale all summer.
Zaxal Properties will appear before the Waitsfield Development Review Board (DRB) on Tuesday, October 27, at 7 p.m., seeking conditional use approval and a setback waiver to expand the deck by 126 square feet.
At the same meeting, the DRB will hear an application from David Sellers of the Madsonian (Sellersonian LLC) on Bridge Street seeking conditional use to construct a dormer on the back of the museum and office building and to construct a 360-square-foot addition (with a flood-proof foundation) on the east side of the building. The application will trigger state review because the structure is located in the flood plain. The proposal is also altering a contributing structure on the National Register of Historic Places for Waitsfield Village.
