Proposed Moretown Town Office

Meanwhile, just north on Route 100B, Moretown is waiting to receive the finalized drawings and bid documents from Maclay Architects for its new town office, which will be constructed on the current site of the Moretown Elementary School playground.

According to Moretown Town Office Committee chair Clark Amadon, "We hope to begin advertising next week and have the documents ready for the bidders by May 11." The town hopes to open bids for the construction of the new town office in early June.

The project's Request for Proposal (RFP) was completed earlier this year. It includes "relatively minor" conditions that the town must meet in constructing a new town office at the current site of the Moretown Elementary School playground, Amadon explained, including mitigation measures to reduce radon exposure as well as water testing.

Signing the RFP "allows the town to incur costs for the project," Amadon said. "Those funds would theoretically be reimbursed," he explained, but the committee waited until after the town received the grant agreement to start spending money. The grant agreement is for a $700,000 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) that Moretown received last summer to build a new town office after its old building was destroyed due to flooding from Tropical Storm Irene.

Because the new town office will technically be located within the flood plain – with mitigation efforts – the committee applied for and received approval from the Moretown Development Review Board (DRB) for their construction.
