A dozen Mad River Valley chefs are coming together on January 12 at Round Barn Farm to showcase their culinary talents with a 12-course tasting dinner. The event is being planned and hosted by chefs Charlie Menard of the Inn at the Round Barn Farm, Waitsfield, and Adam Longworth of The Common Man, Warren.

It features a 12-course sit-down meal with each course prepared and presented by a different Mad River Valley chef. According to Menard, "Our goal is to provide a small and elegant taste of the talents that each restaurant has to offer, from hors d'oeuvres and amuse-bouche to soup, pasta, meats and seafood and ending with dessert." A tasting flight of four wines will complement the meal.

One hundred percent of the proceeds from the event will go to the Vermont Farm Fund, a nonprofit organization founded by Pete Johnson of Pete's Greens of Craftsbury. Johnson established the fund in response to the generous support he received after a devastating barn fire. The Vermont Farm Fund makes no- and low-interest loans to Vermont farmers and food producers recovering from disasters and growing their businesses. As loans are paid back, payments are combined with donations to make new loans, keeping the money working in the local ag economy.

Four loans have been made in the Mad River Valley since the fund was founded in 2011. Kingsbury Market Garden and Hartshorn's Farm both received emergency loans after Tropical Storm Irene. More recently, Scout's Honor Ice Cream and Vermont Bean Crafters have received Business Builder loans.

"The chefs are donating their time, talent, services and food, ensuring that all ticket proceeds will go directly to the Vermont Farm Fund," explained Menard.

Participating restaurants include Inn at the Round Barn Farm, The Common Man, Bridge Street Butchery, The Warren Store, Mad River Barn, The Pitcher Inn, Big Picture, The Sweet Spot, Mint, The Elusive Moose, Timbers, Hyde Away and American Flatbread. Additional donations are coming from Vermont Wine Merchants, Celebration Rentals and Pete's Greens.

The event is expected to be a sellout with just 100 seats available. Tickets are on sale now and include the 12 courses, the wine tasting flight, tax and gratuity. Learn more about the event and purchase tickets online at www.Mad12.com or call Robin McDermott at 496-3567 for more information.
