My sister Lucy A. Haskell (b.1932) disappeared in 1956 from Waitsfield when I was 9 years old. I am looking for anyone who knew Lucy.
Exactly one year ago my four other siblings and I were notified that Lucy died March 2011 in Morristown, NJ. Still investigating, I learned that from 1959 to 1965 Lucy was a first grade teacher in Chatham, NJ, at the Southern Boulevard School.
From 1983 to 2007 Lucy was the children's librarian at Morristown Public Library in Morristown, NJ. However, she only worked on Saturdays. With a degree from UC Berkeley and a librarian's degree from Rutgers, Lucy was an expert in children's literature, excellent at her job, but she never socialized and ate at her desk.
Even though there have been internet postings of her disappearance since 2000, the NJ Surrogate Court never bothered to locate her family. "We don't Google!" we were told.
Lucy's 80-pound emaciated, hunchbacked body remained in the morgue for five and a half months before the surrogate hired an executor. This lawyer didn't "Google" either and proceeded to toss out everything Lucy owned, even 2,700 pounds of her possessions which had been in storage for 37 years – paid for, every month, until one month before her death.
Her coworkers could only say Lucy was a gentle, quiet lady, whose voice turned into a whisper before she retired. An entire year has passed and I am still hoping to find someone who actually knew my sister.
