To The Editor:

Early in the morning on Monday, February 17, Mountainside Condo building #3 at Sugarbush caught fire. I was asleep in my condo and I awoke and came outside at approximately 1:30 a.m. and saw the scene of the fire. I chose to remain on the site and sat in my truck and witnessed the entire incident.

I am a retired lieutenant, safety and training officer from the fire department in my town in western Massachusetts. Knowing that all people and pets were accounted for and safe, I saw that as the incident continued, the tactics and strategies employed by the fire departments on the scene were well thought out and executed. With the difficulties of site location, construction type, freezing weather and water, I have nothing but praise and appreciation for all departments.

Having lost almost everything in the fire, I have been overwhelmed by the extension of love and kindness from so many in the Sugarbush Ski & Ride School and so many other friends from every department at the mountain.

I'm proud to live in The Valley and work at Sugarbush among so many truly great and genuine people. Again, my thanks to all.
