To The Editor:
I concur with Lisa Loomis (June 6 editorial in The Valley Reporter) in urging the Waitsfield Select Board not to override or ignore the 2013 Town Meeting vote to install conduit under Bridge Street.
People, myself included, voted for this not just on cost but as a vote of support for the Bridge Street property owners and businesses who bore the brunt of Irene's destruction, have valiantly rebuilt to the benefit of all us locals and whose rebuilding and revitalization efforts have enhanced the appeal of our town to visitors, which also benefits all of us locals. Disregarding a Town Meeting vote would set a dangerous precedent.
And, while we're on the subject of construction, the property owner who offered to have the poles relocated onto his property made what seems like a reasonable offer. However, the board should try to make the engineer and/or surveyors who messed up the surveying and created the problem pay for their removal and relocation of the poles.
