To The Editor:
A huge thank you is in order to Claudia at the Big Picture Theater for her willingness to bring first-run movies to The Valley. By contract, movie studios and distributors take most of the box office proceeds from a movie house when a new show is first released. Just in recent weeks Star Trek into Darkness, Fast and Furious 6, The Great Gatsby, and Epic have opened here. Superman is due in mid-June. It’s very difficult for a small theater such as ours to find an advantageous place on the distribution chain. We are the lucky recipients of Claudia’s efforts.
As Russ Bennett’s ice cream parlor sign used to say, “eat dessert first.” We might add “then cross the lobby and go to the movies.”
